Plastic accumulating in our oceans and on our beaches has become a global crisis. At current rates plastic is expected to outweigh all the fish in the sea by 2050. Hundreds of thousands of marine animals swallow plastic every year. Plastic ingestion reduces the storage volume of the stomach, causing starvation. Dead animals are often found with stomachs full of plastic. Micro plastic is found broadly in fish meat, ending up in our plates.
What is the solution? Recycling and reuse of plastic products, together with support for research and innovation to develop new products to replace single-use plastics.
